Illustrative worked example

Comparing two machined-enclosure quotes

An illustrative 50-part order shows why a lower unit price can hide a higher order cost.

Define the same order

Both requests use the same enclosure revision, material, finish, and quantity of 50. These figures are illustrative, not supplier prices.

Compare known charges

Quote A: 50 × 40 plus 600 setup = 2,600. Quote B: 50 × 48 plus 100 setup = 2,500. Both totals are in USD before any other charges.

Keep exclusions visible

Quote B has not priced the required inspection report. Its comparable total is unresolved. Ask for that price and confirm tooling, freight, tax, and other charges for both quotes.

Make the next decision

Confirm each charge, entering zero only when explicitly included or not applicable. Compare the same acceptance evidence and lead-time basis before choosing.
